PANTOPRAZOLE 40MG VIAL/40MG TABLET
Pantoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), is used clinically for the treatment of gastrointestinal conditions Fitton and Wiseman (1996), particularly peptic ulceration, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and reflux esophagitis pantoprazole is also effectively used with antibiotics to treat H. pylori-associated disease.
A pro-drug, pantoprazole is activated at low pH (1-3) within the gastric parietal cell to the reactive intermediate sulphonamide and inhibits gastric acid secretion by irreversibly blocking the hydrogen-potassium adenosine tri-phosphate enzyme system (“proton pump”). Pantoprazole more rapidly heals ulcers and has far greater efficacy than omeprazole and ranitidine in oesophageal reflux disease.
