Telmisartan Tablet IP 40mg
Telmisartan, an ARB, is used to treat hypertension, diabetic nephropathy, and congestive heart failure.
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB), used in the management of hypertension. Generally, angiotensin II receptors blockers (like telmisartan) bind to the angiotensin II type (AT1) receptors with high affinity, causing inhibition of the action of angiotensin II on vascular smooth muscle, ultimately leading to a reduction in arterial blood pressure.
Recent studies suggest that telmisartan may also have PPAR-gamma agonistic properties that could potentially confer beneficial metabolic effects. Telmisartan is used alone or in combination with other classes of anti-hypertensives for the treatment of hypertension. It is also used to treat diabetic nephropathy in hypertensive patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus and congestive heart failure, especially those patients who cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors.
Usual Adult Dose for Hypertension:
Initial dose : 40 mg orally once a day
Maintenance dose : 40 to 80 mg orally once a day
Comments : Most of the antihypertensive effect is present within 2 weeks; maximum blood pressure reduction at a given dose is generally observed within 4 weeks of starting that dose.
